BMW Group is accelerating its commitment to the circular economy by utilizing recycled materials in its 3D printing processes. Plastic waste powder and obsolete printed components are now converted into reusable filaments and granulates, enabling the production of auxiliary tools and devices for BMW’s global facilities. Annually, up to 12 tonnes of waste powder are recycled, significantly reducing costs and enhancing production efficiency.

This initiative began in 2018 with the pioneering "bottleUP" project, gradually expanding to BMW plants worldwide, including the Additive Manufacturing Campus in Oberschleißheim. Project manager Paul Victor Osswald highlights its importance: "The use of waste powder and discarded 3D printing components is a key element of a functional and efficient circular economy."

The Campus supports production sites by supplying recycled filaments, printer recommendations, and optimized printing parameters, along with specialized training. This ensures rapid, customized solutions for all BMW plants, driving continuous innovation and enabling swift responses to production needs.
