Hyundai and Kia Integrate Google Points of Interest to Redefine In-Car Navigation

South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia are enhancing their in-car navigation systems with the integration of Google Points of Interest, marking a shift toward more dynamic, user-focused infotainment. More than a traditional GPS, this feature brings real-time local data, live reviews, and community-sourced tips directly to the vehicle's screen.
Already available or soon to be deployed via over-the-air (OTA) updates, the technology features on models such as the Hyundai Kona, Ioniq 5 and 9, Santa Fe, and Tucson, as well as Kia’s new electric sedan, the EV4. Drivers can access business hours, customer ratings, photos, estimated foot traffic, and nearby parking availability — all without leaving the car’s interface.
“As customers receive detailed data through Google Points of Interest, they’ll be able to make well-informed decisions ahead of each trip and adjust their plans on the go,” said Pablo Martinez Masip, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Kia Europe.
The system includes features like auto-complete search, improved voice control, and real-time step-by-step navigation. Leveraging the vast Google user base, the platform continuously updates with new reviews, photos, updated hours, and accessibility information.
This integration follows recent enhancements such as access to YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+ within vehicle systems. Analysts anticipate deeper integration of Google services in future Hyundai and Kia models, suggesting a shift toward a fully Android-based experience akin to offerings from Renault and Volvo.
“Avec cette nouvelle fonctionnalité, Hyundai et Kia enrichissent encore l’expérience de navigation.” L’Automobile Magazine, July 28, 2025.
