A massive fire broke out Saturday morning, May 17, at Kumho’s largest tire manufacturing plant in South Korea and was finally brought under control after more than 75 hours of effort by local firefighters. According to several sources, this plant was significant, with an annual production capacity of around 12 million tires, representing about 20% of the brand’s global output.

Production was halted while the cause of the fire was investigated and losses were assessed through a reorganization. This facility produced tires for passenger cars, construction equipment, and aviation. Kumho operates seven other plants worldwide, including one in Macon, Georgia, which is limited to passenger car tires.
