Toyota and Joby Aviation Partnership Gains Momentum

Toyota and Joby Aviation Partnership Gains Momentum

Toyota has been “flirting” with American company Joby Aviation for several years now in an effort to develop electric aircraft.

This time, one could say the project is “taking off,” as the two companies recently launched the initial phase of a strategic alliance aimed at supporting Joby's electric vertical takeoff and landing commercial aircraft, or eVTOL.

The goal is to lay the groundwork for the production of large electric air taxis. Toyota intends to contribute its manufacturing expertise to the project.

Toyota is not alone in pursuing aviation or other forms of mobility as Joby prepares to obtain its certification. GM has already begun studies in the marine environment with GM Marine, while Honda already has its own aviation division, with a functional product, the HondaJet.

Could this be the beginning of a new era?
