CONTINENTAL

CONTINENTAL

Like most tire manufacturers, Continental started as a rubber factory in 1871 in Germany. What sets Continental apart today is that its advancements in rubber technology go well beyond car tires. In fact, the company remains active in various fields, including footwear, where it supplies trail running shoes with anti-slip soles.

From Adidas to Cadillac, Continental is a manufacturer with numerous partnerships, all aligned with the excellence of its various creative divisions. The company entered the tire market in 1904 with the goal of optimizing its product line. As such, it devotes a significant portion of its production to testing for durability, wet road grip, performance, and above all, effective product design.

With over 150 years of expertise, the company has also mobilized to become a greener business. The three words driving its upcoming changes are: reduce, reuse, and recycle. In terms of reduction, the manufacturer aims to use fewer raw materials in the production of its tires. To transition toward material reuse, Continental recycles both carbon from plastic bottle casings and tire residues. And since one goal supports the other, the company also intends to improve the longevity of its products and operate under a circular economy model by reusing tire carcasses.

One of its guiding principles is [translation] “Adding value to a better future” (translated from French), meaning that the company is committed to a serious environmental approach that also ensures public well-being. Under this umbrella, we find the Conti GreenConcept product, unveiled in 2021. It was made using Taraxacum, also known as dandelion rubber—a natural resin. Since this type of dandelion can be grown locally, CO₂ emissions from material transport are eliminated for this resource.

Like many companies, Continental aims to be carbon neutral by 2040, or at the latest by 2050. Already involved in numerous sectors for healthier progress, Continental is also investing in solutions for transportation vehicles, ships, agriculture, and more. Operating in 61 countries, Continental showcases its versatility by developing technologies that serve the greater good. The company’s human-centred focus is evident in its ongoing effort to broaden its skills for a better world.

Ultimately, Continental is committed to safety for all, regardless of the setting, whether you're exploring trails with your vehicle or your running shoes.
