Toyota Launches the Electric Version of Its Highlander

Japanese automaker Toyota has unveiled an all-new version of its Highlander SUV, this time fully electric.

However, it’s not the now very popular Grand Highlander. That seven-passenger variant has largely overshadowed sales of the five-passenger Highlander. It’s this very trend that reportedly prompted Toyota to introduce a fully electric version of the model.

Offered in XLE and Limited trims, the new model will be available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. The dual-motor AWD version will produce 338 horsepower and offer an estimated driving range of 515 kilometers. Meanwhile, the front-wheel-drive version will be powered by a 221-horsepower motor.

Pricing for the new electric Highlander will be announced closer to its market launch, scheduled for later this year.
