Each year since 1950, the California city of Oakland has hosted the Grand National Roadster Show. Today, more than 500 vehicles are showcased at the event, which culminates with the presentation of a special award given to a private builder who’s modified a pre-1937 convertible with the highest level of craftsmanship and professionalism.
This prestigious honor, known as the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster Award, was presented last week to Nicole Baird of Arizona. The impressive trophy that accompanies the award was handed to her for her 1932 Ford Roadster, powered by a 1950s Buick V8 engine and modified by the local shop Squeeg’s Custom.
The car was selected from a group of nine finalists, two of which came from British Columbia. Among them was a 1937 Ford owned by Cory Kozlowski and built by JF Kustoms of Osoyoos. Notably, JF Kustoms is owned by Quebec-born builder Jean-François Launier.
