On June 12, CPA Montréal held the very first edition of its Reconnaissance 1re Classe event—a cocktail evening to celebrate the achievements of workers who obtained their First Class designation in 2024. Recipients were awarded a commemorative plaque in recognition of their commitment and expertise. We spoke with two of them to learn more about their journey.

I completed my vocational diploma (DEP) in mechanics at EMMEM and then worked in various types of garages.
I’ve always taken the training offered by my employers, including some at CPA Montréal. In a garage, you might think you’ll just learn on the job, but that’s not always the case—especially with electric vehicles. That’s why continuing education is so important to stay current and competent.
The sense of accomplishment and the salary. I’m really happy that there’s more recognition in terms of pay, and it also opens doors to other jobs in the field.
I want to keep working as a mechanic—I really enjoy this trade. I also think technicians will become much more recognized as vehicles get more and more complex.

I studied in Verdun. I first worked in mechanics, then body repair, and now I’m a painter.
It’s always changing—there’s always a different job, and it lets me use my creative side. I found mechanics too repetitive.
I quickly obtained my Second Class, so I thought: “Why not aim higher?” It was a personal challenge I set for myself.
Everything is changing so fast in our industry, it’s hard to say. I think we’ll still need painters and body repairers—even for flying cars. I work at Ford, and we’re constantly getting new equipment for aluminum, welding, and more—there’s always something new.
We’re here to guide you.
