International publication Automotive News reported last week that Japanese automaker Nissan is planning major changes within its luxury brand Infiniti. First, Nissan intends to reduce its SUV lineup from four to two models, eliminating the two less refined ranges.
However, this does not mean that Nissan plans to abandon the luxury vehicle segment. Its new president, Yvan Espinosa, emphasized during a meeting with national dealers held in Las Vegas last August that the company must invest even more in order to fully unlock its potential.
Nissan Americas’ head of planning, Ponz Pandikuthira, highlighted the recent redesign of the QX80 SUV, adding that three new variants of the model would eventually be developed. Furthermore, next year Infiniti will launch a vehicle aimed at competing directly with the Lexus RX: a two-row version of its midsize QX60 SUV.
In addition, Nissan plans to bring sedans back to Infiniti, a segment it abandoned in 2024. A new model is expected: the Q50S, a sporty rear-wheel-drive sedan with sleek lines, even available with a manual transmission. A Red Sport version has also been suggested!
