According to a report from Automotive News, Chinese-made Polestar vehicles, which fall under the Volvo umbrella, will no longer be allowed to be sold in the United States starting with the 2027 model year.
The reason is straightforward: U.S. authorities are concerned that the vehicles' electronic connectivity systems — including Chinese-sourced Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and cellular technology — could allow China to intrude on Americans' private lives and transmit sensitive information to Chinese authorities.
It should be noted that this decision dates back to the Biden administration and is now being enforced by the Trump administration.
Polestar models are closely tied to Swedish automaker Volvo's products, some of which are also built in China. However, those Volvo vehicles are not yet affected by this measure in the United States.
Lastly, this decision does not apply to the Canadian market.
