According to the trade publication Automotive News, Japanese automaker Honda is reportedly planning to revive its small Element crossover in an effort to better compete with Ford's popular Bronco Sport.
Production is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2029 in Ohio, at what would be the only plant in the world building the model, with annual output projected at 100,000 units right from the start.
Once again, Honda appears to be targeting younger buyers with this vehicle, which is expected to slot between the current HR-V and CR-V in size. It is worth noting that production of the previous Element, which remained on the market for about a decade, ended 18 years ago.
Beyond the Bronco Sport, this compact crossover segment — one of the most popular in both the United States and Canada — also attracts younger buyers interested in larger models such as the Bronco, Toyota 4Runner, Hyundai Santa Fe, and even Honda's own Passport TrailSport.
However, Honda knows that the new Element will need to deliver genuine off-road capability to succeed.
