Ford Unveils Its New Production Line

Clearly, American automaker Ford does not appear troubled by the decline in electric vehicle popularity. Last week, its president, Jim Farley, announced the upcoming production (scheduled for 2027) of a new all-electric midsize pickup, which could be named the Ranchero.

At the same time, the company introduced a new assembly line configuration: the Universal EV platform, a new architecture designed to reduce costs, refresh engineering processes, minimize the number of fasteners, eliminate 4,000 feet of wiring, implement a universal moulding method for parts, and integrate a battery that, while offering today’s performance, would occupy only one-third of the volume and serve as the vehicle’s floor.

The highlight is a completely redesigned, versatile — and above all simplified — assembly system, allowing multiple models to be built on the same base. For example, an assembly line worker would no longer have to struggle to slide a dashboard through the door opening to install it. The entire process would be rethought to operate in perfect symbiosis.
