Ford is investing nearly $5 billion in the United States to develop a new universal electric vehicle platform and an innovative assembly process. This major project will create or secure close to 4,000 jobs across the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky and BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan, where next-generation prismatic LFP batteries will be produced.

The first model from this initiative will be a midsize, four-door electric pickup, built in Louisville and scheduled for 2027, with a targeted starting price of around $30,000 USD. Offering more space than a Toyota RAV4, a front trunk (frunk), and a closed truck bed, it promises performance comparable to a Mustang EcoBoost.

To make this possible, Ford is introducing the Ford Universal EV Production System, which replaces the traditional linear assembly line with a “tree” structure. The result: 20% fewer parts, a 15% faster build time, and improved workstation ergonomics for employees.

“We took a radical approach: create affordable vehicles that excite customers while supporting American jobs,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s President and CEO.
