A simple swipe in Ford Motor Co.'s smartphone app could make the difference between buckling up for a routine morning drive and waking up to an empty driveway.
The Ford F-150 regularly ranks among the most stolen vehicles in Canada and the United States. The automaker is therefore fighting back with technology designed to anticipate theft and improve vehicle recovery rates.
This suite of technological tools allows owners to use their smartphone to prevent the vehicle from starting, receive alerts about potential threats, and connect to a company-operated assistance line to track vehicles and coordinate with police in the event of a theft.
The Ford Security package is now available on six Ford and Lincoln models, with additional vehicles from both brands expected in 2027.
Theft alerts form the first line of defence. When activated, owners receive notifications when a door is opened, the vehicle is switched on, or it starts.
This monitoring therefore allows owners to know in real time if something is happening with their vehicle without their knowledge.
