Audi plans to build its first U.S. factory in Georgia

Audi plans to build its first U.S. factory in Georgia

In a controversial announcement, particularly given the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, German automaker Audi revealed plans to invest approximately US$4 billion in a new factory in Georgia. The project is expected to create around 4,500 jobs. It would mark Audi's first manufacturing plant on American soil.

The new facility would focus on producing SUVs designed for the North American market, although some vehicles could also be exported. Its planned annual production capacity could reach 200,000 vehicles. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with production scheduled to start in the early 2030s.

The models to be built there have not yet been officially confirmed, but it wouldn't be surprising to see future versions of the three-row Q7 and the even larger Q9 move from the Bratislava plant in Slovakia to Georgia. According to a Reuters report, a U.S. official indicated that production plans would include the Q7, Q8 and Q9 SUVs.

The same official also reportedly stated that Audi plans to manufacture 25,000 vehicles annually at another new plant, valued at US$2 billion, currently under construction in Blythewood, South Carolina, for Scout Motors, a Volkswagen Group brand.

However, the Georgia factory project still requires final approval from the relevant Volkswagen Group governing bodies.
