Porsche 718 models will be electric after all

According to trade publication Automotive News, Porsche is reportedly planning to officially launch electric versions of the 718 Boxster and Cayman in 2027. The move would fill the gap in the legendary sports car manufacturer's entry-level lineup following the end of production of the gasoline-powered 718 models in late 2025.

The E-Core architecture would position the battery where the engine would normally be located. This configuration would provide balanced weight distribution, helping Porsche preserve the driving characteristics associated with a mid-engine sports car. However, Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has reportedly ruled out internal combustion variants of the new 718 models.
