For the second time in about fifteen years, Honda’s luxury division Acura has announced the end of production for its ZDX crossover SUV (the first generation lasted from 2009 to 2013). This time, however, it was an electric vehicle co-developed with General Motors, built on a platform shared with the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Blazer EV, and Honda Prologue.
Honda/Acura cited weak sales of the ZDX as the reason for this decision. Notably, the model was entirely built by GM, and there was even a high-performance Type S version with two motors producing 550 horsepower.
In any case, this auto only played a temporary role in Acura’s lineup, pending the upcoming RSX EV, which will be produced in a Honda/Acura facility. It should also be noted that this is the second vehicle Acura has discontinued this year, following the TLX sedan.
