Ottawa, May 7, 2025 – Hyundai Canada, through its charitable foundation Hope on Wheels by Hyundai, presented the CHEO Foundation with a $250,000 donation to support pediatric oncology care and research.

CHEO, the pediatric health centre in Canada’s capital, is a global leader in pediatric care and research, serving patients from eastern and northern Ontario, western Quebec, and Nunavut. Its haemato-oncology program provides comprehensive care to children and youth: last year, 110 were diagnosed with cancer and 500 are currently undergoing treatment.

“We are immensely grateful to Hope on Wheels by Hyundai for this generous gift. Their support represents a major investment in the future of pediatric cancer care,” said Steve Read, President and CEO of the CHEO Foundation. “At CHEO, we are committed to delivering world-class care and advancing treatments for children and youth with cancer. Partnerships like this make that possible and bring hope to families.”

CHEO’s oncology research spans preclinical work through clinical trials. As part of the Children’s Oncology Group, the CHEO Research Institute collaborates on over 30 multicenter studies, exploring innovative immunotherapy, less invasive diagnostic techniques, and personalized treatments.

The signature handprint ceremony of Hope on Wheels by Hyundai brought together patients, families, donors, and researchers around a brightly painted Hyundai vehicle, each handprint symbolizing children’s hope and resilience. “It perfectly illustrates our commitment,” added Kirk Merrett, Vice President of Human Resources and Administration at Hyundai Canada and foundation board members.

Launched in 2025, Hope on Wheels by Hyundai has pledged over $4 million by 2025 to support pediatric oncology centres across Canada. Through this initiative, Hyundai Canada reaffirms its commitment to the communities where its employees live and work.
