Ford teams up with Geely for its Spanish plant

American automaker Ford Motor Company has announced a joint venture agreement with Geely Auto, a major China-based automaker, to produce vehicles at its plant in Valencia, Spain.

The joint venture will build both Ford- and Geely-branded vehicles and is intended to maximize use of the plant in order to benefit from economies of scale, according to a joint statement issued by the two automakers on July 23.

The project includes the production of a new member of the Bronco family as well as a multi-segment, multi-energy vehicle, while Geely will produce two electric SUVs at the facility. Production of these new models is expected to begin in 2028.

Current production of the Ford Kuga at the same plant will continue without interruption.

The collaboration is expected to allow Ford to introduce five new passenger vehicles to the European market by 2029, while also accelerating Geely Auto's expansion in the European Union.
