Ford to Offer a Police Version of the Expedition Starting in 2028

Ford has been producing police vehicles for decades, including the former Interceptor generation, now known as the Police Interceptor Utility and based on the Ford Explorer. More recently, that lineup has expanded to include the Ford F-150 Police Responder, the F-150 Off-Road Special Service Vehicle (SSV) and the Ford Expedition SSV, the latter following the Expedition’s 2025 redesign. The 2028 Ford Expedition Police Responder can now be added to that list.

Similar to the 2025 version, the 2028 Ford Expedition Police Responder will be packed with law-enforcement-focused equipment, including 18-inch black steel wheels fitted with Goodyear Eagle Enforcer all-season tires. The Expedition Police Responder will also feature two rows of seating for up to five occupants, all in a fully black interior. Equipment will include durable police-grade cloth front seats with reduced side bolsters, anti-intrusion plates behind the front seats, vinyl flooring, a vinyl rear bench seat and a column-mounted shifter.

Under the hood, the Ford Expedition Police Responder will be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 producing 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Power will be sent through an on-demand transfer case and an electronically locking rear differential with a 3.73 ratio. Heavy-duty brakes will also help bring the large SUV to a stop.
