The renowned Japanese automaker Toyota has announced plans to revamp the vehicles of its prestigious Century brand, originally introduced in the 1980s. Once represented solely by a large, ultra-luxurious sedan powered by a V12 engine, the Century line will soon be joined by a redesigned SUV and, most notably, a high-performance coupe to be unveiled at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show.
The Century coupe is expected to be even more luxurious than Toyota’s Lexus models, signalling the company’s ambition to compete directly with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. In fact, the first images of the coupe suggest it will rival the current Rolls-Royce Spectre and Bentley Continental GT.
In addition to the formal limousine, the Century brand now includes a luxury SUV competing with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga, powered by a high-performance plug-in hybrid V6—possibly the same powertrain that will drive the upcoming coupe. The question remains: will Toyota’s Century brand be offered globally, or remain exclusive to the Japanese market?
