According to several reputable reports, battery-electric vehicle sales surged in September across twelve major European markets. Rising fuel prices and the arrival of new, more affordable models are helping explain this enthusiasm, accelerating the shift away from gasoline and diesel vehicles toward electric mobility.
Battery-electric vehicle sales across these twelve markets increased by 62% in September, reaching a 33% market share, compared with 22% in the same month of 2025, according to Automotive News Europe. During the first nine months of the year, electric vehicle sales rose 42% to reach 2.3 million units, with market share climbing from 20% to 26% compared with the same period last year.
The arrival of smaller, more affordable electric vehicles has also boosted demand. Recently launched models such as the Renault 5, Renault Twingo, Kia EV2 and Cupra Raval were among Europe's 20 most popular electric vehicles in August, according to market researchers at Dataforce.
