Nissan is launching its China-built Frontier Pro pickup truck in Mexico this month, joining a growing number of global automakers that are using their Chinese factories to offset declining sales and excess production capacity.
The Frontier Pro, unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, is the first Nissan vehicle designed and manufactured in China for global markets. Depending on the market, the pickup will be available with plug-in hybrid and internal combustion powertrains. In Mexico, it's the plug-in hybrid version that's making its debut. The vehicle was developed and is manufactured by Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., the Japanese automaker's local joint venture.
Last September, the Volkswagen Group began exporting China-built vehicles to Mexico for the first time. Ford, General Motors and Hyundai also export vehicles from China.
