BMW unveils its new electric iX4 SUV

BMW's new iX3 SUV will soon have a sportier, coupe-like companion, arriving in the first half of 2027. The new four-door iX4 will feature a sloping rear roofline and a distinctive fastback silhouette. It will be the third model based on BMW's dedicated Neue Klasse architecture, as the automaker continues developing a new generation of electrified vehicles.

Neue Klasse is an architecture designed for BMW's electric models. At the same time, the automaker is gradually renewing its entire lineup with electric and combustion-engine powertrains, along with a hydrogen-powered model planned for 2028.

However, while BMW will offer the redesigned X5 with gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains, followed eventually by a hydrogen version, it hasn't specified whether the X4 nameplate will return with a gasoline engine. Production of the X4 ended in late 2025.

BMW has indicated that the iX4 will go on sale in March 2027, starting with the iX4 50 xDrive. It will soon be followed by the iX4 M60 xDrive. Both the iX4 50 xDrive and iX4 M60 xDrive feature one electric motor at the front and another at the rear.
