Nissan headquarters for sale?

According to the highly reputable U.S. news site Automotive News, Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co., which is facing its share of financial difficulties, is reportedly considering selling its large Yokohama building that serves as its global headquarters. If the sale goes through, the profits would help fund the company’s emergency restructuring plans.

This impressive 22-storey glass building, constructed in 2009, was developed under former CEO Carlos Ghosn, during the launch of the all-electric Nissan Leaf.

Nissan is reportedly burdened with significant debt, and the company is considering cutting more than 20 000 jobs, closing seven plants, and slashing approximately 500 billion yen (about 4 768 076 000 $ CA) in expenses. A proposed merger with Honda Motor recently fell through.
