Mazda unveils new electric platform

mazda-unveils-new-electric-platform

While Japanese automaker Mazda currently uses a Chinese platform for its electric sedan sold in that country, it plans to launch its own platform starting in 2027. Very recently, the company unveiled this new architecture (which will likely reach us sooner or later), designed according to the typical skateboard style, with a flat battery pack located under the floor of the targeted vehicle.

The first model built on this platform is expected to be an SUV intended for global production. The batteries will be developed in partnership with Panasonic.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, Mazda could also develop a plug-in hybrid version, featuring a small engine, possibly rotary, to increase range, a technology already applied to certain electric versions of the MX-30 SUV in specific markets.
