Geely, the First Chinese Automaker in Canada with... Lotus?

We had all been wondering which Chinese brand would be the first to sell its electric vehicles in Canada. Major automaker Geely (Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, etc.) may now have the answer: it could be itself, but under an unusual badge, Lotus, with the Eletre SUV.

In fact, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. has owned the Lotus brand for some time and builds the all-electric Eletre SUV for the British marque at its plant in Wuhan, China.

Since the Eletre meets the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Geely has decided to send 18 units to this country.

Canadian pricing has not yet been announced, but in China, the Eletre sells for 538,000 yuan (C$108,224).

Regardless of the price it will command here, what matters is how quickly this major player in China's automotive industry has responded to the Canadian opportunity. Everything also seems to indicate that another automaker, BYD, is preparing its own return to Canada.
