It has been about 10 years since British automaker Land Rover discontinued its smallest SUV, the Freelander, which later became the LR2. It therefore came as a surprise when the company unveiled an all-new version at the recent Beijing Auto Show in China. However, this is disappointing news for European and American enthusiasts, as the Freelander 8 will not be marketed anywhere else in the world.
In fact, this small Land Rover is a fully electric vehicle developed in partnership with Chinese automaker Chery. It is also inspired by the Concept 97 prototype unveiled at the end of March.
The design comes from Jaguar Land Rover, while the technology is supplied by Chery, a partnership that, for now, remains exclusive to the Chinese market.
It should also be noted that Huawei developed the advanced driver assistance technology (ADAS), in addition to the roof-mounted LiDAR sensors and Qualcomm processors.
