This news comes from Bloomberg, which reports that Ford President Jim Farley was impressed by the level of technology in China during a recent trip. According to a source cited in this report, Ford is planning to launch extended-range electric versions (Extended Range Electric Vehicle or EREV) of several of its most profitable models, including the Super Duty trucks, as well as certain SUVs and crossovers. However, none of these models are expected to be unveiled before 2027.

While Ford has abandoned the production of some large fully electric vehicles, the automaker has nonetheless filed patents for extended-range vehicles, according to the Ford Authority website. Moreover, Ford has already announced its intention to add a hybrid version to all its internal combustion engine models (Ford Blue) by 2030.

If recent developments do not alter these plans, the Oakville plant in Ontario could also produce heavy-duty trucks, including the Super Duty, in hybrid versions.
