BMW ready for hydrogen

bmw-ready-for-hydrogen

According to the website Hydrogen Central, German automaker BMW appears ready to prioritize hydrogen propulsion over battery electrification.s.

In reality, a hydrogen vehicle still uses an electric motor, but it is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell rather than a battery. Its only emission: water. BMW is one of the few manufacturers that has been exploring this technology for several years.

Currently, about 2.5 million electric vehicles are on the road in North America, compared to only 15,000 hydrogen-powered cars, mostly on the West Coast. Few automakers believe in this technology, apart from Toyota and BMW.

However, BMW plans to launch the iX5 Hydrogen in 2025, followed by two more hydrogen-powered models the same year. The next step will be developing a hydrogen refueling infrastructure in the coming years.
