Despite the tariffs imposed by the fiery and unpredictable U.S. President Donald Trump, Volkswagen Group’s PowerCo division has decided to move forward with the construction of its battery plant in St. Thomas, Ontario. Concrete pouring for the approximately $7 billion CAD project has already begun. The site will require 500,000 square feet (50,000 square metres) of formwork, where more than 32,000 cubic metres of concrete will be poured.

Volkswagen Group has therefore started building this facility, which will produce battery cells despite the uncertain future of electric vehicles in North America. This will be PowerCo’s third and largest plant, following those in Germany and Spain.
