Surprisingly, the all-electric Mustang Mach-E is a hit both with private buyers and commercial or public fleets.
Indeed, you’ve probably seen Mach-Es on the road sporting company graphics on their doors or, even better, repurposed as police cruisers! Offered by American giant Ford, this sporty-looking SUV (with front and rear styling that echoes the Mustang coupe and convertible) is available as rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and is fully electric.
To compete with foreign rivals that like to add a racing flair to their models, Ford tasked its designers with creating a rally-inspired version of the Mach-E that’s still street-legal. They raised the suspension and added a handful of racing accessories: integrated spotlights in the grille and front and rear air deflectors. The wheels were treated to match, and Ford fitted the test vehicle with Michelin CrossClimate 2 winter-rated tires (also great on gravel!), a setup I tried out in winter and on gravel or dirt roads, with surprisingly good results.
Critics were harsh when the Mach-E launched just over four years ago. However, it’s clear today that this SUV meets expectations, thanks in part to the addition of a heat-pump heater. And if you get a chance to drive it, you’ll discover it really does feel like a Mustang!
