BMW recently announced the arrival of an engine powered by hydrogen, considered the [translation] "fuel of the future", with production planned for 2028. This project, in partnership with Toyota, aims to strengthen their position in the field of alternative fuels. Already recognized for its quality electric vehicles, BMW seeks to address the limitations of lithium-ion batteries, particularly in terms of range and towing capabilities.

A pioneer in the automobile industry since 1916, BMW has excelled in engine manufacturing, auto racing, and more recently in the production of electric vehicles such as the BMW i3. Their new collaboration with Toyota targets the development of hydrogen fuel cells compatible with existing electric platforms.

Although the specific model that will benefit from this technology has not yet been unveiled, experts are betting on an SUV, a very popular segment. However, uncertainties remain regarding the commercial viability of this technology, especially in the United States, where hydrogen infrastructure is still limited. Nevertheless, BMW remains determined to invest in zero-emission solutions for the future of mobility.
