Axalta's Redefined red named 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year

Axalta's Redefined red named 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year

It's official! American company Axalta Coating Systems has selected Redefined, a rich ruby-red finish with a subtle shimmer, as its 2027 Global Automotive Color of the Year. The colour was unveiled earlier this month at Automechanika Frankfurt. Redefined uses modern coating technology to bring added brightness, depth and visual dimension to this familiar automotive hue. According to Axalta, the finish draws inspiration from the appearance of a gemstone. As light interacts with the coating, it reveals a subtle sparkle that enhances the sense of depth and changes the red's appearance depending on the lighting.

Axalta launched its Global Automotive Color of the Year series 13 years ago with Radiant Red. Axalta's 2026 colour of the year was Solar Boost. Evergreen Sprint was selected for 2025, Starry Night for 2024, Techno Blue for 2023, Royal Magenta for 2022 and Electrolight for 2021.
