Chinese Manufacturers Plan Major Production in Europe

If you believe that the Chinese automotive “invasion” in America has been avoided thanks to the heavy tariffs imposed by the U.S. president (a policy later adopted in Canada), be aware that this may only be temporary. In the meantime, Chinese automakers are using this situation to establish themselves elsewhere around the world, including in Europe.

According to news agency Reuters, annual production of Chinese vehicles in Europe could reach 300,000 units within the coming months. Among the companies involved is industry giant Great Wall Motors, which is currently seeking a location for its first assembly plant on the European continent (Spain and Hungary are among the proposed sites). According to an announcement made last October, the company could introduce up to seven new models or derivatives in an initial “wave” expected by mid-2026.

Great Wall is not alone. Mega-manufacturer BYD is already building factories in Hungary and Turkey, while Xpeng is preparing to market vehicles assembled under licence by Magna Steyr in Austria… while waiting for its own plant!
