What if renewable gasoline were the solution?

What if renewable gasoline were the solution?

In Europe, BMW, Toyota, Bosch and Repsol are currently exploring an important question: is it possible to decarbonize transportation without necessarily replacing the millions of internal combustion engines already on the road?

The answer could be yes. While the European automotive industry continues to debate how to achieve carbon neutrality, BMW and Toyota still believe in the viability of the internal combustion engine.

To demonstrate this, a pilot project involving nearly 20 vehicles was launched in Spain in early July. These vehicles run exclusively on Repsol Nexa 95 renewable gasoline. Meanwhile, Bosch is tracking the fuel through a digital system designed to trace its origin and use.

The goal is not to compete with electric vehicles, but rather to show that the future should not rely on a single technology.
