A sign of the times, major Japanese automaker Toyota has announced that it is dropping its LF-ZC electric vehicle project, which was unveiled in 2023. This futuristic sedan was meant to compete with similar all-electric models, but several of those projects have also since been shelved.
The LF-ZC, which stands for Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst, was intended in part to rival Tesla's vehicles, at a time when Lexus believed it could reach annual production of one million electric vehicles by 2030 before transitioning its entire lineup to electric propulsion by 2035.
It is clear that Toyota has been influenced by several other automakers, including Honda, Mazda and Subaru, which, faced with declining interest in this technology, have temporarily scaled back their efforts in that direction.
