If you are a fan of classic cars, especially sports cars, you are no doubt familiar with the Cobra roadster, an “invention” of American racer Carroll Shelby that was built in just under 1,000 units between 1962 and 1967. Today, an original 1963 or 1964 Cobra is worth at least US$1 million.
If that is out of reach, British manufacturer AC Cars, which built the body and chassis of the original Cobra before it received its Ford V8 in the United States, has decided to bring it back — this time as a coupe, like the versions used in European competition.
Announced last year, the AC Cobra GT Coupe is now in production. It is still powered by a 5.0-litre Ford V8, but this time it delivers 730 horsepower. Weighing just 3,530 pounds, it can reach a top speed of 318.6 km/h and sprint from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.2 seconds.
Pricing is expected to range from US$315,000 to US$335,000, with deliveries scheduled for 2028.
