Egg-based tires?

egg-based-tires

Believe it or not, according to Motor Authority, automaker Stellantis is reportedly on the verge of patenting a method to incorporate eggshells (or other materials derived from biological waste) into the manufacturing of automotive tires.

According to Motor Authority, Stellantis filed a patent application in 2023, which was recently published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The idea is to replace carbon black and silica—two compounds traditionally used in tires and considered pollutants when dispersed as dust—with calcium oxide (commonly known as quicklime), a potentially less harmful alternative.

Although the effectiveness of this technology has yet to be proven, it is part of a research program aimed at reducing pollution generated by the automobile industry.
