Chinese automaker BYD has just surprised the European automotive market by unveiling its latest electric vehicle, the Denza Z9GT, in Paris. Its standout feature? It can reportedly recharge from 10% to 70% in about five minutes.
This large luxury car is expected to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT. It is set to go on sale in Europe this year at a pre-launch price of €115,000, while a plug-in hybrid version will be available starting at €100,000.
According to the automaker, its BYD Flash Charging system can bring the 122 kWh battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes, or up to 97% in nine minutes, which would put it on par with the time it takes to refuel at a traditional gas station.
BYD also claims that even in extreme cold, down to -30°C, charging times would increase by only three minutes. Range is expected to reach about 600 km (373 miles) under the WLTP cycle, according to a BYD spokesperson.
