According to Galhotra, Ford Is Using Robotic Dogs

Although the topic was first revealed a few years ago, the Ford Authority website has just confirmed its existence: Kumar Galhotra, Chief Operating Officer of the American automaker Ford, recently confirmed it.

In some factories, robotic “dogs” built by Boston Dynamics are deployed to save time and money while making retooling processes more efficient. These “dogs” scan factory floors and help engineers prepare digital models for the process. They even perform additional tasks, according to Galhotra: he cites the example of the “dog” at the Valencia, Spain, plant, which—thanks to sensors that can hear, see, or detect vibrations and oil leaks—contributes to quality and efficiency. Initially slated to produce electric vehicles, that plant will instead assemble hybrid models. Incidentally, Hyundai, one of Ford’s rivals, has recently acquired a significant stake in Boston Dynamics.
