Elvis’s guitar cadillac resurfaces

American custom coachbuilder Jay Ohrberg truly captured the imagination of modified-car enthusiasts when, in the early 1970s, he built for Elvis Presley a guitar-shaped Cadillac.

Starting with a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, Jay extensively reworked the body, crafting a fibreglass shell that perfectly mimicked the contours of an electric guitar. The spectacular vehicle, nearly 13 metres long, was long thought lost. It has just reappeared in Orléans, France, though it clearly needs urgent restoration.

Originally, it was powered by an 8.2 litre (500 ci) V8 producing 400 hp and 550 lb ft of torque, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and driving the front wheels. Remarkably, the creation was road-legal, and Elvis himself drove it at least once on his way to the Las Vegas International Hotel. It is currently up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of US $10,810.50.
