VW Delays the Launch of the Scout

According to the German newspaper Der Spiegel, automaker Volkswagen would delay the launch of its new Scout pickup truck lineup until 2028 at the earliest.

Initially, production of the Scout electric pickup trucks and SUVs was expected to begin as early as 2027. However, rumors point to “technical issues,” as well as a shifting economic environment.

Reviving the name of an SUV introduced by International in the 1960s — a brand now integrated into the Volkswagen Group — VW aimed to reposition Scout in the electric pickup segment.

Although the new plant built for the project is nearly complete, the German automaker would reportedly have had to adapt to new U.S. government requirements, which notably eliminated subsidies for electric vehicles.
