Nothing has been confirmed yet, but rumours continue to circulate: Chevrolet is reportedly on the verge of announcing the return of the Camaro. However, nothing has yet emerged regarding its shape or specifications.
Specialized publication GM Authority believes the new car could be built on GM's Alpha 2 platform, designed for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicles. That approach could favour a gasoline or electric SUV more than a performance coupe or sedan powered by an internal combustion engine.
The new Camaro would reportedly be assembled at the Lansing Grand River plant, which had already been retooled for electric vehicle production. Manufacturing could begin in the fall of 2027, which would make it a 2028 model.
According to GM Authority and Automotive News, the platform for this potential Camaro could also be shared with the replacement for the Cadillac CT5, as well as a new Buick sedan, even though the brand currently offers only SUVs.
