Volkswagen will end production of the electric ID.4 in the United States and shift its focus to the Atlas lineup as the electric vehicle market adjusts.
Production of ID.4 models destined for the U.S. market will be moved from Chattanooga to Zwickau, Germany, starting in mid-April. Model-year 2026 ID.4 vehicles will remain available through existing inventory, which Volkswagen expects to be sufficient until 2027.
This decision follows the cancellation of the ID. Buzz van for 2026, as well as the abandonment of the ID.7 electric sedan project. However, a future version of the ID.4 is still planned for the North American market, although the production location for that model will be announced at a later date.
Atlas SUVs will continue to be built in Tennessee, as the model has enjoyed a certain level of success in the North American market.
