The right-to-repair file continues to move forward in Manitoba. In an update published on April 23, AIA Canada highlighted the progress of Bill 15, The Consumer Protection Amendment Act, which aims to establish a provincial right-to-repair framework.
After more than 18 months of advocacy with the Manitoba government, the association says this marks an important milestone for both consumers and independent repair businesses. The bill has already passed second reading and the committee stage, and could receive Royal Assent before the House rises on June 1.
AIA Canada notes, however, that the upcoming regulatory phase will be critical, particularly for the automotive industry, which is expected to be addressed after home appliances. The organization intends to continue working with industry stakeholders to help ensure that the future framework provides meaningful and fair access to the automotive aftermarket.
