Rediscovering Mechanics at Tremblant

How many times have you heard the complaint: “It’s not like the good old mechanics anymore”? Want to rediscover that “good old-fashioned” automotive tech? The best way to do so, aside from classic car shows, is to attend one of the three events known as the Classics, held on the breathtaking Circuit Mont-Tremblant, just over an hour north of Montréal.
Beyond the stunning location, going to one of the Classics gives you access to the paddocks, where you can examine every piece of machinery up close and even share your observations and opinions with participants.
Don’t worry, despite the mechanical complexity of some vehicles, you’ll find engines and other components that are easy to identify, especially in the Vintage class. This category showcases English, Japanese, and American cars powered by four-, six-, or eight-cylinder engines without complicated emissions plumbing or one of those plastic engine covers that often hides everything underneath.
If you truly appreciate mechanics, the Mont-Tremblant Classics also feature Formula-style cars, often powered by simple Ford Kent or Toyota four-cylinder engines, or even exotic cars with highly specialized setups. What’s most rewarding, though, is that unlike international-level events, you can talk with the car owners, their mechanics, or even the entire crew about all things technical.
The first Classics of the season at Circuit Mont-Tremblant (an institution in its own right) took place just a few weeks ago, even under dreary weather. But two more are coming up: July 25–27 and September 26–28. Mark those dates in your calendar and remember, admission prices are very reasonable!
