Will the Genesis X Skorpio Ever See the Light of Day?

A new automotive niche appears to be emerging on the horizon. It’s that of super off-road vehicles, inspired in particular by those we saw earlier this year at the Dakar Rally, held in Saudi Arabia. This desert-based event allowed us to discover specially prepared Ford Raptors, very much in line with the vision of Ford CEO Jim Farley, who’d like to see the Raptor models become the “Porsche of off-road vehicles”.

In this context, he’d certainly take an interest in the X Skorpio design study from South Korean automaker Genesis. This off-road supercar, directly inspired by Dakar racers, would be built on a tubular chassis and clad in a body made of fibreglass, Kevlar, and carbon fiber. It would ride on 40-inch tires mounted on 18-inch wheels with Brembo brakes and, of course, be powered by a V8 engine producing 1,100 horsepower and 850 lb-ft of torque.

Will the Genesis X Skorpio ever see the light of day? Given the brand’s importance in the Middle Eastern market, along with the passion of the group’s chief designer, Luc Donckerwolke, why not? The remaining question is whether Ford would dare to respond.
