Is This Already the End for the Santa Cruz?

According to a report from the reputable weekly Automotive News, reliable sources within the automotive industry have learned that production of Hyundai’s Santa Cruz mini pickup may soon be coming to an end.

Launched in 2021 to compete with the Ford Maverick, the Santa Cruz pickup-based SUV — whose front end was recently redesigned — has failed to achieve the expected level of success. In fact, nearly four times as many Mavericks are currently being sold compared to Santa Cruz models.

Hyundai had reportedly been considering a complete redesign of the model for the 2027 model year, but increasingly persistent rumours suggest the Korean automaker may instead abandon the project altogether. In its place, Hyundai would launch a true midsize pickup built on a body-on-frame platform, similar to what Toyota offers with its Tacoma.
