What If Toyota Created Its Own Version of the Raptor?

According to the publication The Drive, Japanese automaker Toyota recently filed a trademark application for the name “TRD Hammer” with the United States Patent Office.

Of course, registering a name doesn’t necessarily mean a vehicle will go into production. However, still according to The Drive — which cites information from a company insider — Toyota is currently working on a desert-focused pickup truck prototype, notably equipped with 37-inch tires.

Closer to home, the automaker recently took part in the Mint 400 Off-Road Race with a modified Tundra. It’s also worth recalling that in 2021, Toyota unveiled a concept vehicle, the TRD Desert Chaser, shown here.

The goal? To compete with Ford and its Raptor variants, which are especially popular in the southwestern United States.
